With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League’s 31 teams.

Today, the award-worthy candidates for the Detroit Red Wings at the pause:

The Detroit Red Wings have been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention for the fourth straight season after making the playoffs in 25 straight.

However, some individuals have stood out, especially considering difficult circumstances, and to showcase those performances this season, here are their top players in various categories:

MVP

Jonathan Bernier‘s numbers don’t do him justice. The 31-year-old is 15-22-3 with a 2.95 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage and one shutout in 46 games (41 starts). That’s actually pretty good for a No. 1 goalie on a rebuilding team that has dealt with injuries and has struggled defensively, ranking last in the NHL at 3.73 goals-against per game. But Bernier has given the Red Wings a chance to win as much as could be reasonably expected, and he is the only goalie to win a game for them since Oct. 29, when Jimmy Howard made 31 saves in a 3-1 victory against the Edmonton Oilers.

Rookie

Filip Zadina leads Detroit rookies with 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 28 games. The 20-year-old forward, who was selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, had six points (five goals, one assist) in nine games before sustaining a lower-body injury against the New York Rangers on Jan. 31. He played through the injury against the Rangers the next day before an X-ray revealed a fractured ankle.

Defenseman

Filip Hronek has shown promise. The 22-year-old has set NHL career highs in games (65), goals (nine), assists (22), points (31; tied for fourth on Red Wings) and average ice time (23:54; leads Detroit) while playing against top opponents at even strength and on the power play and penalty kill.

Defensive forward

Luke Glendening draws most of the tough defensive assignments, and he leads the Red Wings in defensive-zone face-offs with 449, winning 56.4 percent of them. Glendening leads Detroit forwards in shorthanded ice time (172:46).

Comeback player

Robby Fabbri hadn’t played a full NHL season since he was a rookie in 2015-16 because of two ACL surgeries, and the 24-year-old forward had one goal in nine games for the St. Louis Blues this season before they traded him to the Red Wings on Nov. 6. With a larger role on a new team, Fabbri took off with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 52 games. At the pause, he had a chance to eclipse his NHL career highs in goals (18), assists (19) and points (37), each set in 72 games as a rookie in 2015-16.
